About the event

A one-day symposium where PGR and PhD scholars interested in Sociology, Crip Theory, Critical Disability Studies, and Mad Studies will hear from a variety of invited speakers working in these fields, inside and outside of the academy.

This is a hybrid event, so speakers and participants will join us online via Microsoft Teams or in-person at the University of Southampton.

The symposium will include keynote speeches from Dr Robert Chapman and Dr Élaina Gauthier-Mamaril, and three session panels where invited speakers will present on topics related to the session theme.

Session 1: What can Sociology learn from Crip Theory and/or Critical Disability Studies?

Session 2: Mad studies and knowledge creation inside and outside of the academy.

Session 3: What are we missing? Identifying issues and opportunities in Crip Theory and Critical Disability Studies

Each session and keynote speech will have live BSL interpretation.

The symposium is free to attend and lunch will be provided for attendees joining us in-person. Registration is required.

For further information about the symposium, you can follow our Bluesky account.
